As some of you might guess, I love to read! I can get on a reading kick and read like nothing else matters. However, lately I have put aside my reading for school, and I have since longed to curl up with a comfy blanket on the couch and delve into a murder mystery or romantic love story. The problem is, whenever I start a novel I can't put it down until it's finished. Thus, the reason why I haven't even picked one up in months (other than a textbook). This has really been a challenge since I'm always seeming to pick up a book here and there to read "sometime"...the books keep piling up in my closet collecting dust. Books should NEVER collect dust!
Even though I consider myself an avid reader, I don't even compare to my sister, Erin! She's always got a book in her hands. Just as soon as the back cover is closed on one novel, the front cover is opening on another! I really admire this about her. In fact, she is always recommending various books to others; even letting them borrow them.
I recently learned of a book she recommended on her blog called "The Christmas Jar" by Jason F. Wright. I scoured different book stores in search for this book and finally came to find it at Borders. It seemed small enough to allow myself the luxury of taking a few minutes to read. I was smart this time to pick a book short enough to finish in less than a day because, (of course), I couldn't put it down.
(I stole this photo from Erin's blog...for illustration purposes.
Hope you don't mind, Erin)
"Hope Jensen is a young, single woman and an aspiring newspaper writer, and when she receives a much-needed but anonymous Christmas gift, she's determined to find her benefactor. That search leads her to an unusual family with a longstanding Christmas tradition. Sensing a front-page feature article, Hope desperately wants to publish their story, but doing so would be a breach of trust. What she decides to do will change her life forever.
Destined to become a classic Christmas tale, "Christmas Jars" is a heartwarming story that will restore your faith in mankind and make you want to start your own Christmas jar tradition."
I agree with the rave review that Erin posted about this sweet tale of sacrifice and love. Even in a world of crime and hate, there is still 'good' in humanity after all. Go out and pick up your own copy of this heartwarming tale (once you read it you'll be passing it around to all your family and friends). I suggest you hurry! Time may be running out if you plan to spread some Christmas cheer this year like the characters in the book did. Read it and you'll know just what I mean.
Post script: I suggest that Miss Erin start a Book Club...you know like Oprah. "Erin's Book Club". Sounds good to me!

Maybe I'll have to do that! I am glad you liked it!
I agree! Internet book club, so that us distant friends/family can have fun too! I liked the book myself, though I didn't cry as much as every said I would.
