Fall is my favorite time of year! (Thus the new background) I love the crisp mornings where you can see your breath! I'm not too much of a morning person however, I just love sitting out on the patio with a warm cup of hot chocolate. That's the only thing that can get me out of bed and the only thing penetrating enough to warm my insides through and through. No blanket, coat or long-john can do the trick!
I really enjoy watching the happenings of the world at that early hour, especially as the sun peaks over the horizon. There's just something about it; I can't really put my finger on it. I wouldn't be caught dead out on the porch in the middle of SUMMER...the humidity alone would kill me (let alone melt me)!
I guess it goes back to my childhood when walking home from school I could smell the fire going in the fireplace from all the way down the street! All it took was a quick glance down the road to see the smoke coming from the chimney to verify what I already knew. The thought that my cold walk home was coming to an end and I would warm myself by a roaring fire was so appealing. The best part of days like that was coming through the door to the aroma of chili on the stove. I don't know why, but I would get so excited on those days. It's amazing how different smells can trigger fond memories. I guess that's why it takes me back to those days when the mere thought of warm chili in my belly and a toasty fire beside me, made me feel like I didn't have a care in the world. Those were simpler times...listen to me, I sound like an old fogey reminiscing about the "good 'ole days". Well, I guess they were.
